ECIDC hosts 32nd Annual Meeting & Regional Recognition Awards

The event honored outstanding leaders in the region, celebrated development in east central Illinois communities and provided a look back at the organizational accomplishments of the previous year. The program began with a welcome from President Brian Moody followed by organizational updates presented by Executive Director, Randi Bohannon. Bohannon provided background information about ECIDC as well as information about current and ongoing initiatives.

Special guests included 2015 Librarian of the Year, Amanda McKay, Director of the Effingham Public Library. McKay presented information about the "Connecting Generations" program, a student to senior learning initiative developed with ECIDC and supported by Lake Land College in 2013.

Stepheny McMahon, Director of the Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development shared information about the award winning workforce initiative, "No Job Left Behind" a collaborative effort to address the skilled labor need in our region.

Following the networking luncheon, President Moody resumed the ceremony by presenting the Volunteer of the Year award to John Vogt. John serves as Treasurer of ECIDC on the Executive Committee and his additional support during the previous year of organizational transition was immeasurable.

Jean Anne Grunloh, Executive Assistant to Lake Land College President, Dr. Josh Bullock, presented the BESI, Business Enterprise and Social Involvement award to Joe Forbes, President of Versatech, Inc. in Effingham. Dr. David Glassman, President of Eastern Illinois University, presented the BESI award for Mac and Ginny Condill of The 200 Acres in Arthur, IL to Bob Doan who accepted on their behalf.

Bill Wagoner, City Administrator of Arcola presented the Lifetime Achievement award to Fredi Beth Schmutte of Schmutte Consulting, highlighting the differences she has made in numerous communities in the region. Bob Colvin of PEDCO also shared humorous examples of Fredi Beth’s determination and persistence in her commitment to obtain results.

The final award, Outstanding Leadership in Community and Economic Development, was presented by special guest, Lt. Governor, Evelyn Sanguinetti. Craig Lindvahl and Midland Institute for Entrepreneurship. Special thank you to West & Company, LLC of Effingham, Illinois for their sponsorship of the 32nd Annual Meeting and to the CEO student attendees.

ECIDC Seeks Nominations for Regional Recognition Awards
ECIDC’s Regional Recognition Awards honor East Central Illinois’ most ethical and socially responsible businesses, most influential community and economic development leaders, and most committed volunteers. East Central Illinois, as defined for these purposes includes Christian, Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Effingham, Jasper, Moultrie, and Shelby counties.     

Please submit your nomination for the following Regional Recognition Awards:
Business Ethics & Social Involvement Awards (BESI)
Outstanding Leadership in Community & Economic Development Award
Lifetime Achievement Award

BESI Awards are sponsored by ECIDC, Lake Land College and Eastern Illinois University

Award recipients will be recognized at a local civic event in their community; either a Chamber Meeting, City Council Meeting or other meeting as schedules allow. Recognition will also take place at the ECIDC Annual Meeting which will be held Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Thelma Keller Convention Center in Effingham, Illinois. Recipients will also be featured in the ECIDC Annual Report.

5th Annual Broadband Summit a Success

December 2, 2014

Over 50 community leaders and broadband industy executives met at Sarah Bush Lincoln Education Center in Mattoon, Illinois to collaborate and hear broadband updates.  A group of area telecom students and professors also attended the annual event.

East Central Illinois Hosted the 2nd Annual Regional Manufacturing Roundtable with 95 in Attendance

On October 28, 2014, dozens of manufacturers, economic development professionals, educators, and community leaders met to share success stories and to network in order to ensure a good pipeline of skilled labor for regional regional manufacturing. Rural Partners awarded a grant to ECIDC to assist with expenses of the conference.
